December Newsletter

Published 20:03 on 10 Dec 2021

Dear Member,

Christmas Spirit

I would like to thank all those that helped source and decorate the real Christmas tree and decorations at the club. Rarely used in December as much as it is this year, it was another first that the clubhouse be decorated to offer Christmas cheer and get us all in the Christmas spirit of friendship and goodwill to all people. The Tree was kindly sourced for us by David Germane of Windmill Nurseries and decorated with loan items from numerous club members.

Mulled Wine and Mince Pies

The famous Budworth Sailing Club Boxing Day Open will be held on 26th December. Complimentary mince pies and mulled wine await those who have room to consume. This event is open to all visitors and members. First race starts at midday. Two races are scheduled (no discards) with separate double hander and single handed and junior starts.

Date in the Diary

Thank you to all those that have filled in their name on the 2022 duty rota. The response this year has been tremendous with many members committing to three or more duties. The paper rota has now be taken down and all the blank spaces will be filled with allocation of role and dates to all eligible members who have not yet signed up for duties. The duty rota will be uploaded onto the Budworth website for members to view and take note of the calendar of their own duties for the 2022. It is intended that the upload of the complete rota will be viewable early in the New Year.

Snowflakes and Ice crystals

We have already seen snowfall at the club this November. Please be reminded, if you choose to leave a boat / raceboard on the club premises during the closed season, a winter storage fee is payable by the end of December. To book your winter storage to leave a boat/raceboard at the club, you should make your payment before 31st December by logging onto the club website and going to the calendar section.

New Year Resolution

We remain very positive about our chances of progressing further with the RYA Y&Y "Club of the Year". However it is totally reliant on the public vote. Please make it one of your New Year's Resolutions to help us achieve this amazing accolade by sharing the link on our website or https://qrco.de/bcY6Tu with more of your friends and family. Share on Facebook Groups, WattsApp groups and all other social media platforms. Thank you

Fit to Sail
Having been awarded RYA Regional Training Centre status, for the first year ever, Budworth Sailing Club can encourage and support our members in keeping minds and bodies updated and sailing fit whilst our dinghies are laid up over the early months of the New Year. The winter months are a great opportunity to take part in our own RYA accredited Regional Training Centre Courses, to acquire new skills, and/or keep existing skills and qualifications up to date.

The club is offering all members the opportunity to enrol on the following courses, to be held on our own premises:

RYA Power Boat Level 2 (PB2) Courses
There will be three 2-day RYA PB2 courses held at the club. These are two day courses with an RYA qualified Power Boat Instructor (Budworth member Chris Grice). Each of the 2-day courses will be held in January 15th/16th, 22nd/23rd and 29th/30th. These can be booked via the club website at the cost of £160 per person.

First Aid Course
A RYA first aid course is scheduled for Saturday February 12th. This is a one day course that will be held in the clubhouse. This course can also be booked via the club website. Cost to be confirmed.

RYA Dinghy Instructor Course
A five day RYA accredited dinghy instructor course is being held at Budworth on February 19th/20th and 25th/26th and 27th. There are one or two places still available. If you are interested in taking this course (min age 16, PB2 and first aid certificated, pre-assessment and Safe and Fun Certificate required), please contact Hugh Devereux or Paul Clancy at training@budworthsc.org.uk for more details.

Roll out the Barrel

Our Bar Manager is looking to recruit any member who would take on the role of manning the bar on Saturday's and Wednesday evenings next year. Anyone interested should contact Sally via bar_mgr@budworthsc.org.uk

Merry Christmas

I would personally like to thank everyone who has helped to make the 2021 sailing season a phenomenal, upbeat and successful year with so many aspects exceeding all previous years. I remain dedicated to building on, and perhaps even exceeding, 2021's successes as we move into 2022.

Wishing everyone a merry Christmas

Bill
