Gybe talking this year will start on the 14th January.

With the clubhouse currently undergoing its refurbishment project the decision has been made to relocate the Gybe talking series as a substitute to run these popular events.

The venue for all the below dates is The Cock 'O' Budworth - CW9 6HB

We have a private room called 'The Stables' at our disposal.

Doors will open at 7pm for a start at 7:15pm Please get there early to get a drink from the bar beforehand.

14th Jan - Racing / Sailing fast with Luke Shaw

Luke's knowledge and experience of race coaching as part of the RYA regional and national team is second to none. The talk will be targeted at our Better sailors aiming to improve their knowledge and understanding of how to prepare to win races.

21st Jan - Racing Rules of Sailing with Nick Devereux

Nick will be bringing his broad knowledge of the racing rules as an International umpire having officiated this year at the Bermuda Gold cup among many other events. He's not lost his sailing skills though, winning the RYA National match racing championships with his team in October. He will be coming to Budworth hot from a weekend umpiring the first SailGP event of the new season. So will hopefully have plenty of stories to tell.

The talk will be wide ranging but will focus on the racing rules for club sailors competing at home and at championships.

28th Jan - Being engaged keeping focus with Hugh Devereux

The aim of this talk is to focus on the racing mindset. Preparing for a race or an event. Maintaining our mental focus and knowing how to hit the reset button!

Hugh by his own admission can lose focus, can lose the plot and maddeningly often can lose sight of the goal! So this won't be a lecture on perfection, more an exploration of habits and behaviours.

4th Feb - Race management with Bill Kenyon

Bill will give an overview of what makes a good race course, the role of the race officer and how to optimise racing for the participants you are there to serve.

11th Feb with Ali Cormack

Ali is one of our highest performing sailors, not only regularly sailing her ILCA or crewing their GP14 or Fireball with Russell, or helming a Snipe on Wednesday evenings. Ali is truly an all round performance sailor.

Ali serves the sailing club as our Racing Secretary where she brings a professional and convivial calm to meetings and the organisation of racing.

The subject of the talk is to be confirmed, but rest assured Ali will bring her A game to the evening as she does to everything she does. Watch this space for updates!

18th Feb - World ARC with Martin and Sian Joesbury

Martin and Sian are well known to most in the club as RS200 sailors, but last year took a year out to sail around the world. This evening will be a fantastic insight into Ocean sailing and cruising with the World Cruising association World ARC. One not to be missed!

25th Feb - Weather or not to sail with Dave Morris

Dave is a well known club sailor, who over the last few years has taken sailing from complete novice to accomplished club sailor, and often been out and about at Championships. Dave is keen on meteorology and will be giving an insight into the working's of the weather system and how that can help us all to know what's coming and be better sailors.

4th Mar - Sail shape and boat speed with John Greenwood

John is a former Masters Finn world champion (twice). John returns to Budworth for the final in the Gybe talking series talking about sail shape and controls and maximising the control and power from the rig.

Very interesting subjects delivered by our very own experts in a relaxed informal setting and its an ideal opportunity for our learn to sail and better sailors to practice what gets presented during next season however, of course, everybody is welcome - you never stop learning. See you there!
