Budworth Sailing Club brought the 2026 midweek racing season to a fitting conclusion on Wednesday evening, with a spectacular pursuit race providing an exciting finale to another hugely successful series.
With 35 boats taking to the water, the final race saw sailors set off at staggered intervals for an intense one-hour pursuit around the Mere. The format provided a fitting finale to a season that has once again demonstrated the popularity and strength of midweek racing at Budworth.
Over 22 weeks, sailors completed an impressive 40 races, with 116 different boats taking part across the Handicap and ILCA fleets. The series continues to be one of the club's great success stories, combining competitive racing with a welcoming and sociable atmosphere throughout the summer.

Thank You
A special thank you goes to Wednesday Fleet Captain Bill Kenyon for organising and coordinating another excellent series. Our thanks also go to Mark Philpot, who took on PRO duties for the final pursuit race and helped provide such a memorable conclusion to the season.
And, of course, the racing would not be complete without the food afterwards. A huge thank you to the galley team, who have kept sailors well fed and provided an important part of the social atmosphere throughout the series.
With another midweek season successfully completed, Budworth can look back on 22 weeks of racing, strong participation, close competition and plenty of memorable evenings on the Mere.
We look forward to seeing everyone back on the start line next season.
