Club Racing
Budworth is primarily a racing club. Sailing is given more interest and excitement by racing against others.
Whatever sort of racing you prefer, Budworth offers it, whether that is handicap or class (fleet) racing.
To find out more about the fleets sailed at our club, look at the "Club Fleets" page
If you would like any further information about our racing, please contact the Racing Secretary
Our main competitive sailing is on Sunday afternoons, when we run a series of fleet races. Juniors have their own series and may sail a shorter course or less laps.
On Wednesday evenings and Saturdays we enjoy Handicap races.

Sunday Racing
Sunday is the day for competitive fleet racing!
Race against other sailors in your own boat class, with a separate start. Juniors have a separate start so can compete against each other too, sometimes with a shorter course or less laps.
Tuesday Raceboards
Come down and join us for a race or just a blast about. Visitors welcome.
Wednesday Racing
Very popular, usually two races, first race at 7pm. Lasers have a separate start, other fleets race together in a handicap start. Juniors also welcome to join us of course!
Friday Cruising not Racing
A relaxing and friendly evening on the water. Ideal for those who are starting out and want to practice without any racing pressure!
Saturday Racing
Saturday afternoon sailing is all about fun, learning and relaxed competition.
What's the format?
It's the same format every week. There are three races with the first one starting at 2.00. There will be a helpful briefing beforehand at 1.40 from a trainer or an experienced sailor. When possible there will also be on-the-water and between race advice. The bar will often be open afterwards.
Are you up to it?
If you can launch, tack and get back to the jetty you're ready for Saturday afternoon sailing. If you're worried about gybing but not bothered about winning you can always tack instead. If this all sounds like gobbledygook you might want to
book some training.
What's the competition?
All of the races will be competitive. Whilst rules will be observed the more experienced sailors will be encouraged to help and nurture those less experienced.
Visitor?
Saturday racing is open to visitors and to all classes of dinghy with a Portsmouth Yardstick above 964.
For a small fee of £6 per day, visitors may sail on up to 10 Saturdays each year and participate in either the Handicap or Junior fleet races.
Saturday racing runs from April through to October. Please note that visiting boats may not be left overnight in the boat park.
We look forward to welcoming you to Budworth!
