Budworth ILCA Open Report 3rd July 2022

The event aracted 20 entries including 6 visitors from Dovestones, Scammonden Dam and KSA. It was great to also see 6 juniors taking part, many for the first time in an ILCA open event.

A great westerly force 4 wind with a few gusts greeting the fleet. Four races were sailed with simple courses set by the PRO Steve Hayward and his team of Firefly sailors. The choice of rigs between the ILCA 7, ILCA 6 or ILCA 4 sails was a critical one for each competor. The first race was won by Ian Jones (ILCA6) from Dovestones with Pete Wilkinson (ILCA7) from Budworth second and Oliver Hirst (ILCA6), a junior from Scammonden Dam third. The second race was again won by Ian Jones, with Hugh Aield (ILCA7) from Budworth second and Ian Lees (ILCA7) from Scammonden Dan in third. The third race was again won by Ian Jones, with Oliver Hirst second and Ian Lees in third. The gusty condions downwind caused a couple of spectacular "death roll" capsizes including Chris Allen (ILCA7), Budworth ILCA class captain. The fourth race was won by a junior Lucia Aikman (ILCA4), a visitor with James Alexander (ILCA6), a Budworth junior in second and Oliver Hirst in third place. The event was won by Ian Jones with Oliver Hirst in second and Pete Wilkinson in third place. James Alexander was the second junior. Congratulaons to all the winners and special thanks to Steve Hayward - PRO and the Firefly team who ran a very enjoyable event.
