Choosing a Class
Budworth Sailing Club focuses on Class (or Fleet) racing – this is a good way to race against other boats of the same type, and we sail in a range of classes designed to suit all ages, abilities and styles of racing – both two-handers (helm and crew) and single handers, for both adult and junior sailors.
If you are keen to buy, which class of boat you choose will depend on many things, including your experience and personal preference. The descriptions in Racing/Club Fleets give some details and rough costs, but are by no means exhaustive.
You can also join as a crew and sail with helms in the different classes first, or talk to any of the class captains who will be happy to offer advice and help.
Several of the classes suit a wide age, from teenager to senior citizen, and we have some of the top sailors in the North West in several age groups, as well as those who are beginning the sport!
We run training courses for both juniors and adults, depending on demand. Junior courses are very popular!
The club also holds special "Club Open Days" during the year. This is specifically for people to come and find out about the club, talk to fleet captains about their class dinghy, suitability, training, and to go out for a sail on the lake with one of our club helms etc.
Look at the Events page for current dates for all these events.
