Dear Member,
From a glorious April, we have transitioned to, perhaps, the wettest May on record. Despite this, turnout of members at the club has been phenomenal.
Bar Open
In light of the recent easing of Covid restrictions, we are pleased to report the resumption of a bar service at Budworth. For the time being, this will be strictly with service outside from the open double doors to the bar. Bar Secretary, Sally Gilder, has restocked the bar to tempt us all to refresh ourselves from a new range of beers, wines and soft drinks. Card payments can now be accepted.
Surprise donations
Environmentally friendly, and in keeping with the rural aspect of our club, members will note the addition of two Picnic table/chair combo's to the waterside aspect of the clubhouse. These family friendly facilities have kindly been donated by two different Budworth members for the use of any of our members.
Bird Man
Budworth has recently granted permission for access to the grounds and foreshore to Mr Greg Baker, the official Bird Recorder for Marbury and Witton Flashes. Greg compiles bird surveys, including breeding bird surveys and wetland bird surveys for the British Trust for Ornithology. We are thrilled to advise that Ospreys have been seen over the Mere this month and can guarantee further fascinating feedback of Greg's observations in the future.
Vacated Lot delivers bonus
It is with great sadness that Cheshire East has advised cessation of its activities at Budworth leading to their vacation from the Eastern Dinghy park. Sadly, Council funding is being directed to other activities for the outward bound activity youngsters who used to sail at the club. Formerly, this group has allowed Budworth to undertake training under the Cheshire East RYA RTC (Registered Training Centre). We are pleased however, to announce that Budworth Sailing Club has already made great strides towards transferring the registration of RYA RTC status to Budworth itself for future RYA certified Learn to Sail activities.
Sea Cadets sailing our waters - Dib, Dib, Dib
The silver lining is that we have been able to offer time and space to the 1st Weaverham Sea Scouts. Their initial outing to be sailing Budworth's waters was the beautiful balmy evening of Friday 21st May. Similarly, we have been able to agree to Weaverham Scouts commencing use of our waters as of last week.
Home News
On Saturday 15th May attracted 11 race-boarders from within the club. Won by our own Pete Wilkinson, second was Eric Paalman, third was Paul Keeler. Light and fickle conditions were admirably handled by our Race officer, Mark Antonelli with Ray Tran assisting.
On Sunday 16th, the club was really busy as a result of commencement of the Junior tuition sessions. Parents stoically manned trolleys to facilitate easy landing and coaches led by Luke Shaw, and organisers, Steve Joyce, Ross Baird and Beth Holbrook must be thanked for their exemplary organisation.

Six Budworth sailors visited Leigh and Lowton on May 15th to race their RS200's. John Chapman and Wendy Martin came a creditable 4th with consistent results. Our own Racing Secretary, Russel Page, winning the final race.
Several of Budworth's juniors were seen at Scaling Dam sailing in the ITCA North Topper Series, part of the RYA Topper series circuit on Saturday May 22nd in wild and windy conditions. Launching on the other side of the country, Budworth's juniors sailed and capsized Toppers with great fun.
Budworth sailors have been travelling far and wide this month. With Nick Devereux and Sarah Jarman representing Budworth, coming 3rd at the GP14 Southern Area Championship at Brightlingsea over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd May. Hugh Devereux and Malcom Bird finishing 4th overall and first in the silver fleet, their first race win at a National event.

Having been blown off on 3rd May, the North West Junior Traveller Trophy has been re-scheduled and will take place on Monday 31st May at Budworth. This is a highly popular event which we are requesting all entrants to pre-book a place using the updated Budworth website.
GP14 Open on 6th June a one day event sailed in GP14's which is open to any club sailor who can borrow a GP14 to sail. Three races, two to count. First race at 11am.
Border Counties Midweek Travelers Series - Co-ordinated by Ted Garner for Budworth, this series is for sailors of any boat. Budworth will host the first of this series on Tuesday 8th June with 3 races, commencing 11am for the first race. This is the initial Tuesday event of this new travellers series to be held over 6 venues in the Border Counties.
The Laser open at Budworth is Sunday 27th June with details yet to be finalised. Watch our website pages for further details.
The return to sail group continues to review government recommendations and RYA interpretation as we unlock. It aims to keep us all sailing safely and will continue to make changes to recommendations commensurate with our transition to normality.
