Budworth on Sea

Published 09:56 on 19 Aug 2022

Two weeks on from Abersoch Dinghy week, we're all still reflecting on an amazing week of sailing, socialising, and sunbathing (maybe less so ;). We reclaimed the title "Budworth On Sea" winning the prize for the largest number of competitors from a single club to congregate in Abersoch and compete for the 50th Anniversary of the event. Whilst gusts of 40 mph left Sunday racing cancelled, Monday left many watching on from the seaside as a few brave souls including Pete Wilkinson for the laser fleet and the Pages for the RS200 fleet braved the high seas; ultimately claim overall 5th prize (Pete Wilkinson) for the laser fleet and third prize (Vicky and Russell Page) for the RS200 fleet for the whole week! Congratulations guys!

The rain left no spirits dampened as Rob Murphy took to the stage to deliver evenings of live entertainment reciting some of his old classics "Sweet Caroline" and even getting some newbies up on stage to test their guitar skills! We had to give Ian a medal for best fancy dress; just look at those colours!

A screenshot of a computer Description automatically generated with medium confidenceIt wasn't just the adults that enjoyed what Abersoch had to offer. Our juniors had a "whale" of a time out on the water, with Connie Murphy proudly taking victory in the Coached Regatta Fleet for a week of spectacular sailing and Eva Murphy taking 7th in the Intermediate fleet.

Thank you to everyone who supported our club members in getting to Abersoch for the 50th Anniversary of Dinghy Week but we'd like to give a special mention to Sue and Chris Allen for all their hard work in helping to organise the event.

Until next year!
