Dear Member

The Halloween season is upon us, and you know what that means. For most people, it is scary and at the same time cute. For us sailors, it signifies the time when the clocks go back an hour and race start times change with the need to accommodate when the sun goes down.

Ghoulish Gusts and Autumn Tie Downs

With the turn of Autumn can come gusty winds and freak storms. Now is the time to ensure you tie down your precious dinghy and protect it from the winter elements. Each boat should be secured with its own pair of tie down stakes. These are available from the club's own chandlery at a miniscule price of £5 per pair.

Trick and Treat

It was no trick that the 2022 membership renewals were sent out on 1st October. Members are requested to make timely payment prior to the AGM to facilitate production of the club handbook and associated duty rota. Remember that if you renew before the AGM you will only have to pay at existing rates. Fees paid after the AGM will be at rates which may be uplifted in the review and vote on next year's fees which takes place the AGM. On behalf of us all, I would like to thank our membership secretary, Steffany Ward, for the many hours she has devoted treating us all to our very own reminders to pay our dues in good time.

Meaty Mouthful

It may be a meaty mouthful to say but the Budworth Sailing Club Special General Meeting was a great success. Held on Monday 20th September, members voted to approve the revised Rules, Appendices and Bye-Laws, as well as the renewal of the Rescue Rib storage facility and associated works. Many thanks to all those who attended and constructively contributed to the proceedings of this meeting.

Screaming for joy

Joyous shouts and calls for water accompanied the racing on Sunday 10th October. The Junior Regatta saw 27 young sailors take to the water in the final session of the year with three back to back races and two fleets. The Race fleet comprised our 'regular racer' young sailors and was won by Tristan Shaw. Our Regatta fleet consisted of Budworth's 'new beginner' sailors some who had never raced before. Within the Regatta fleet, Ben Smallwood won in a Topper with three firsts (one to watch for the future), whilst Rowan Helsby won in an Optimist. A very special mention goes to Luke Shaw for running the event, and to the team of Beth Holbrook, Ross Baird and Steve Joyce for overseeing the juniors all year.

Monster Success

It gives me great pleasure to announce the monstrous success achieved by one of Budworth's own youth sailors, Emily Page, who has won the 2021 RYA North West Junior Youth Traveller Series. This was a series of 8 events held at clubs around the North West where the best five results counted to reveal the overall series winner.

Creepy Crawlers not found here

The Driver & Pursuit Trophy will be held on Sunday 31st October with 1st race commencing at 11:00 am (note the clocks change overnight on 30th). No creeping around in this one, it is a full on day. The best three boat team results per fleet, over three pursuit races, will count towards deciding the winning fleet of the Driver trophy.

A show not to miss

Just as the Rocky Horror show is considered by many to be a show not to be missed, the Annual General Meeting of Budworth Sailing club is also a great event. Do not miss the chance to vote for, and talk with, your committee for the new sailing year. The AGM will be held on Wednesday 10th November at 19:00. The bar will be open and you will also benefit from the opportunity to indicate your preferred duty dates on a paper chart version of the 2022 Duty rota. It is a great evening when all renewed and new members will also learn of all the good things achieved in the last year and planned for the next year.

Spooktacular Celebration

Our club's Annual Prize giving will be held on Saturday 13th November at 19:00. Buffet food will be provided by the club to accompany the beverages we all buy to congratulate and celebrate the winners of our club trophies and prizes.

Dress to Impress

Limited edition, 75th Anniversary, Team Budworth tops are going to be available to order via our club website commencing 1st through to 30th November. Online payment is bank transfer or GoCardless. One price of £37.50 each. Choice of six sizes. Orders will be collated during the month of November so that we may secure delivery before Christmas.

Halloween Harvest

In today's ever fluid environment, costs of food services are highly volatile. Your committee have asked that members be advised that after a review of our Galley services, prices will be adjusted under the watchful eyes of our Galley Manager and Treasurer to ensure we maintain quality product with prices that stay in line with inflation.

Keeping it Black and white

Your committee is thrilled to report that Budworth Sailing club has been chosen as the RYA Y&Y North West regional finalist for "Club of the Year". In this high-technology world, Social Media Likes & Reviews are used by thousands of people to check out which clubs and groups to join. Budworth will now proceed to the second phase of the Club of the Year competition, and will be assessed against eleven other regional finalists. If you want to put it out there in Black and White, for all to see, that you think Budworth is the best, please do your bit to help us achieve this amazing accolade and go on to Facebook, Twitter and/or Google etc and write a complimentary review and / or indicate on-line that you "like" us in your Social Media pages.

Hoping that your sailing this Halloween season brings you more treats than tricks.
