Fleet Captain: Ian Noble

The most recent addition to Budworth fleets, the single-handed Solo is gaining popularity with helms who want to move over from the lighter Laser, or from a two-man dinghy. It handles similarly to a laser, so is great fun to sail.
Although designed in 1956 the Solo dinghy is more popular and widely sailed than it has ever been. The national championships usually attract more than 80 boats. It is also the largest fleet at the annual Abersoch Dinghy Week, normally with over 40 boats or more.

There is also a very active open meeting circuit.

The boat appeals to those who prefer to sail single handed or who are unable to commit to a regular racing crew. A range of mast designs allows the boat to be set up for helm weights from 70Kg up to 95Kg. Age is no barrier, as there are active Masters and Grand Masters fleets.
