GP14-worlds-hugh_and_malcHappy Sailing

We are up and running again for the main season now with main points racing underway from last weekend. I hope you can make it down to enjoy all that the club can offer.

This year we are running lots of training. You can learn to sail/windsurf or build your confidence with more training, up to and including race training. It is all about taking part, whatever your skill level – please don’t be afraid to come down and ask anyone at the club for help – they will be more than happy to help.

Racing

Saturday Sailing started last weekend which a more relaxed format with three Handicap and Raceboard races.  Sunday is about racing in fleets (the same boats racing only each other). There is also one handicap race at 12.30.  ‘Main Points’ runs from now until the kids break for their summer holidays. Then there is a separate summer series over the period of the summer holidays 10th July -> 21st Aug. Main Points starts up again after the Commodores regatta – 28th August and runs until end Sep. Your races for both before and after the holls all count to Main Points. I mention this because sometimes our racing schedule can be confusing especially for new members. There was a great turnout last weekend and we were blessed with some wind which was a little shifty but strong enough to have fun. Please don’t think that Main Points is only for experts – everyone is welcome,  whatever your level. Just let your fleet captain know if you are less experienced and he will make sure that the other members of your fleet watch out for you.

Looking a little further ahead, midweek sailing starts on Tuesday 19th April (Raceboards) and Wednesday 20th April (dinghies).

Budworth Hoodies

One of our junior members is raising money towards an expedition to Peru in 2017 where she will be helping out at a local children’s project and school. She is offering hoodies for all Budworth Sailing club members in both junior and adult sizes.
The cost of the child’s hoodie is £18 and the cost of an adult’s hoodie is £22. This includes printed back with text ‘Budworth Sailing club’ and printed name on front left breast (if requested). All proceeds will go towards fundraising. The colour of the hoodies will be Oxford Navy with white text print.
If you would like to purchase a hoodie and want to know sizes etc., please contact Freya at freya@peers.myzen.co.uk or see her at the club. (She will be around during junior training sessions and most Sundays).
All orders must be in by 3rd June 2016.

Marketing

Thanks to Mark Cleary, who is doing a fantastic job getting our profile up on Social-Media. He has also had a great sign made up which is in the water just off Marbury Park. It has pictures of all our fleets and encourages spectators to spot each individual fleet. Also thanks to Ian Noble who has had some signs made up on the entrance to Budworth for visitors and potential members.

GP 14 Worlds

Finally, congratulations to High Devereux and Malcolm Bird who came 1st in the bronze fleet (42nd overall) at the GP worlds in Barbados. Also – well done to Nick and Ellie Devereux (sorry Ellie that you are not in the photo I have) who were 6th in the silver fleet (29th overall) and first youth boat – thanks for representing Budworth so well.

GP14-worlds-nick_d_prize
There were over 100 entries and they had some tricky strong winds by all accounts. There were some great videos made by Nick and Ellie of them racing that went viral – we will try and get them up on the website. I have been watching their feeds on Facebook with envy as posts were made of great sailing conditions and rum being consumed in vast quantities – good to see the prize included some more rum!

See you on the water soon.
Pete
