An excellent event at Budworth this year, with a good turnout from Budworth sailors and visitors alike. We were pleased to welcome a strong contingent from Bolton, as well as WLYC and other clubs in the North West.
In marked contrast to last years’ force 4-6 wind, we were both blessed and cursed by the weather this year. On th eplus side it was a lovely warm and sunny day, so sun-cream was the order of the day. However the light and fickle wind gave the Race Officers pause for thought and a delay to the first race.

However a sensible course and good management meant that all three races were completed, and an excellent and good humoured day was enjoyed by all.

On the first race over-enthusiasm from several boats resulted in a recall, but then the fleet got away, and quickly found that a lot of ground could be easily gained or lost, depending on the wind puffs and shifts. The meant that some windward boats suddenly became becalmed and then ended to leeward of those approaching behind!
The leaders pulled away and clearer air stretched the fleet out.

After a good lunch races 2 and 3 were completed successfully. The conditions remained “bright and light”, so there was everything to play for as positions could change quite dramatically!

Chris & Ejay first in the silver,

and Peter Guest & Sheila Beavers won the Bronze fleet prize.

We would like to thank all for coming, and especially the visitors who traveled to join us in spite of the light-wind forecast!
