Welcome New Members

The Open Day and Push the Boat Out were two very successful events and I would like to welcome all the new members to the club. I have downloaded the latest list for this email update but I may still be missing email addresses. I source my email lists from our central database – Webcollect. Please update your address in Webcollect if you change it, if you wish to continue to receive these updates. Thanks again for all the volunteers on those days. As a new member, you are hopefully beginning to enjoy Budworth. We will be organising sessions for new members to swap notes and if you need any help or info please contact is Criag Hewett – New Member Coordinator at craighewett@gmail.com.

As a reminder for all members this is how the week pans out this year:

Monday nights – Adult & Family Training various
– contact John Waind for more info – bsctraining@budworthsc.org.uk

Tuesday nights – Raceboard night (windsurfing)
– everyone is welcome to give it a try, no need to be an expert – we have some spare gear as long as you don’t mind getting wet! Have a go, then off to the pub after. Contact Mark Spurrell – captraceboard@budworthsc.org.uk

Wednesday nights – Midweek Sailing (racing)
– Two races and two fleets, handicap (all boats except Lasers) and Lasers. Lovely evening sailing with food prepared whilst you sail. Contact Bill Kenyon at captwednight@budworthsc.org.uk

Thursday nights – Junior Training
– Back by popular demand more junior training by our resident trainer – Chris Hill. This is a group based relaxed instruction / coaching session, although it must adhere to RYA group policies and so numbers will be limited. It is open to any junior club member and is run on a six-week block basis. Please speak to Hugh Devereux bscvicecomm@budworthsc.org.uk or Chris Hill for more information.

Friday nights – Cruising no racing
– Super relaxed evening. Come down and just chill out, in the most beautiful spot in Cheshire. Potter about with others, have a go with someone else, chat with your friends, borrow a boat, sit on the patio, fire up the barbeque – whatever suits – just enjoy the surroundings. The rescue boat will be manned by an experienced helm (not necessarily an instructor), who will be happy to provide some informal coaching / advice if requested. Bar Open – contact John Waind – see email above.

Saturday – Adult & Family Training plus Relaxed Racing
– In the morning various training sessions take place with Chris Hill. Fancy learning the ropes, easing yourself into racing – this is the afternoon for you. Get get some tips from the Race Officer, followed by three races where competition is fun and relaxed. Contact Mike Davies at captsat@budworthsc.org.uk

Sunday – Flagship Racing Day & Junior Training
– In the morning Hugh Attfield and the team run junior training. He is at bscjuniors@budworthsc.org.uk. Then in the afternoon our main racing happens – don’t be scared off this afternoon. It is competitive but also welcoming, have a go – the fleet captains will make sure the rest of the fleet know you are new and will watch out for you. Crews are always required, so you can experience the thrill of crewing or perhaps just relax and watch the racing, enjoy the galley or bar afterwards.
Everyone is welcome whatever activity/day you select. Details regarding all training can be found at http://budworthsc.org.uk/training/
Remember all committee members are volunteers so they may not respond as quickly as perhaps work colleagues but the email address’ of all committee members can be found at http://budworthsc.org.uk/about-us/contact-us/

GP 14’s success
Earlier this month Nick Devereux and Geoff Edwards took the south by Storm winning the GP14 Southern area Championships at Stone. They then followed it up with a Second place at the GP14 Inlands at Bala last weekend. This puts them at the top of the Super 6 series.
Budworth Topper open
Budworth also hosted the NW area Topper traveller this month and with a huge contingent of 18 boats from Budworth it demonstrated the vibrance of the club at the moment. Budworth Juniors excelled. Annabel Page coming 3rd overall and winning the last race, primarily because she held her head and sailed the correct course. Her younger sister Emily also excelled in some challenging conditions coming 8th overall, just ahead of Michaela Attfield, Ryan Hart and Hermione Attfield in 12th. Budworth numbers were boosted by the now Thursday night sailors who all took to the racecourse and showed resilience in the conditions (light and fluky) that most of us hate.
Raceboard Open
This went well last weekend with Alison and her team preparing a lovely lunch. Jon Ward and Martin Joesbury did a great job in shifting winds. Four races were held in quick succession, thus avoiding any entanglement with the dinghies in the afternoon. Myself and Paul Keeler came first and second for Budworth followed by Jeff Gorton visiting.
Upcoming Events
Next on the Agenda is the GP14 Open on the 5th June, we generally have a good turn out from North West GP14 sailors and we look forward to some prime racing conditions (last year we had 25 knots of breeze). Lots of new and different members in the fleet this year, so why not all come and have a go, there will be sailing at a range of fleet levels and a very good primer for the Endurance event later in the month.
TEAM Budworth – EnduranceEvent – Saturday 25th June
To promote club sailors of all abilities to join TEAM Budworth at this year’s 50th 24Hr West Lanc’s event, we are organising a 6 hour Endurance Event & Social on Saturday 25th June at the club. We will start the day with a briefing at 10.00am and run a six hour event starting at 11.00am, finishing at 5.00pm. We will have six GP14’s each with a nominated team captain aided by five crew members to achieve six evenly matched ability sailors per team. To mimic Southport marine lake there will be a simple circular / square course (based on prevailing conditions) with a set no of laps before a compulsory change over (wind strength dependent). Each helm / crew pairing, will be expected to sail for around 20 minutes six times throughout the day. We will record the number of laps of each team and score the event with the winning team being based on highest number of laps completed over the 6 hours. We plan, weather dependant, to set up a self-service BBQ and offer soft drinks. The aim of the event is to promote as many members to join TEAM Budworth for this year’s historic 50th 24Hr West Lanc’s Race to be held in Southport in September. Interested in joining in please contact captwednight@budworthsc.org.uk
