Raceboarding on a pond any good?

Budworth Sailing Club is located in Cheshire. We sail on a small pond about 1km long and 1/2 km wide and is partially surrounded by trees. It doesn’t sound much of a windsurfers paradise but if you ignore the lack of surf and tide it is brilliant for tactical raceboarding and having fun.

Tuesday evening the lake is ours to sail on. There are plenty of permanent buoys on the water so the race officer can set a competitive course making the most of the wind direction. With the lake being quite small compared to open water there are plenty of tactical decisions to be made and your mark rounding will improve in no time due to the multitude you have to round in a typical race.

Boxing Day Open meeting for RNLI

Boxing Day traditions are easily discarded -when a blustery westerly blows at around 40 mph.
The forecast deterred some, but thirty hardy souls took to the water in their boats for the Boxing Day Open. A steady, but twisting wind tested the qualities of all sailors, and everyone was able to end their day with the cobwebs blown out, and exercise removed the excesses of turkey and stuffing!

The subsequent run and next beat was followed by a good planing reach, before a gybe mark caused many casualties. While many succeeded, the three flights of single handed, handicap and Juniors were now split in half. Just nine boats survived to end race 1. [read more...]

Budworth Laser Open Event - 3rd July 2016

The Laser open at Budworth attracted an excellent turn-out in great conditions. The wind was variable but offered opportunity for big gains and losses when you least expected them.

Congratulations to Charlotte Greenhalgh from LLSC who won with a string of 3 bullets, with George Graham from Burwain in second and Ross Crook heading up the Budworth entries in third.
