Budworth have again entered THREE teams this year for the Annual 24 Hour Endurance Race, held at Southport Marina THIS WEEKEND, the 9th/10th September.
As well as a “crazy” sailing event it is a great social occasion, and we welcome ALL Budworth members to come and support us at Southport Marina. You can be assured of a warm welcome, and we have our own marquee (the envy of many other clubs, so can offer you hot drinks etc, and (I hear) a glass of prosecco if you are there early Saturday evening, to celebrate our club’s 70th year!

Budworth is almost unique in entering three teams, and about 30 club members will be racing in the ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams, including sailors from many of our different fleets.
The ‘A’ team bettered their 10th position of last year, achieving an excellent 3rd position overall and completing 86 laps, with average lap time 16’50”.
Team ‘B’ (Masters) finished 16th overall with 81 laps under their belt,
The C team improved on last years’ 59th place, completing 74.75 laps with average lap time of 19’21” and finishing 35th overall.
If you have never seen the 24 Hour Race in progress before it is quite a sight, with upwards of 60 boats sailing round (and round and round) the fairly small Southport marina… continuously from 12 midday Saturday until 12 midday Sunday (yes, sailing through the night as well!)
The forecast was showing “very windy” during the run-up to the race, so there was a degree of trepidation amongst the C Team… and because it is an “endurance” race, it is never cancelled!
We always extend a warm welcome to members that drop in to support us, and I am sure they enjoyed the visit too!
Our marquee is very distinctive – just look for our flag pole flying the Budworth burgee.
